Painting life through an inflated perspective

Hi! I'm Katie,

I’m a Southern California artist creating realistic mylar balloon paintings inspired by still life traditions, contemporary realism and storytelling.

I've always been creative, but my current focus of work began with a tiny balloon painting during a 100-day challenge. What started as an experiment to see if I could rebuild a habit of creating daily quickly became an obsession. The reflections, the creases and the challenge of creating a three-dimensional object on a flat surface demanded a kind of focus I didn't know I needed.

Unexpectedly, as the paintings evolved, so did the meaning behind them. Balloons stopped being the subject and became a visual language to explore memories, everyday objects, nostalgia and the experiences we carry through different seasons of life.

I create from my home studio, inspired by faith, family and the ordinary moments that are easy to overlook but often matter most.

xoxo, Katie
